I’ve spoken about this before in this forum. It’s because the method of distribution for comics has changed since those days, and the current method is decidedly unfriendly to anthology and try-out series. So it’s less about it not working for modern readers (although there is some of that as well) and more that it doesn’t work for modern retailers–which means, by extension, it doesn’t work for modern readers.
